Brotherhood of Centurions

"now the matchless deed's determined, dared, achieved and done"

It is nearly 100 years since the formation of the Brotherhood of Centurions, and today there are members around the world with Centurion organisations in the Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, USA and Malaysia.

The Centurions1911 have a tradition of friendship and camaraderie across the continents and we hope that race walkers around the world will find useful and helpful information about the Centurions and walking those "100 milers".

The Brotherhood of Centurions would like to encourage any walker to attempt, which to some people, might seem the impossible -  to walk a 100 miles in 24 hours.

Our website offers encouragement and training advice to walkers and to race organisers.

We can call on the expertise of many friends around the world and we have articles on training for "The 100" as well as what to eat, what to wear, and how to organise a 100 mile race.

History

1911 --  The Foundation: birth of the Centurions

Between 1902 and the Centurions foundation in 1911 walking as an (amateur) athletic sport had become established.  At the inaugural meeting, James Edwin Fowler-Dixon was accorded the number "1" in 1877 and was elected the first president.
